Energy 3
In 2003, University College Ghents last grade students Applied Engineering Electromechanics Sam Schotte and Wim Declercq built the Energy 3. This new car was developed to establish a fuel economy of over 1000 km/l (625 mi/l). Unfortunately, due to a crash on the circuit, the team never came to this record with the car.
One year later, students Koen Byttebier, Mathias Vandendaele and Bart Hamelinck rebuilt the car and established a new team record at the Shell Eco Marathon in Nogaro with 703 km (440 mi) with one liter of diesel.
