To create the least amount of turbulence, the windscreen of our car needs to be perfectly integrated in the bodywork. Moreover, it needs the same 3D curvature as the bodywork. This can be established with a thermoforming installation.

 

After some research, we developed the following unique thermoforming installation:

The principle is quite simple: a heated transparent plastic panel is heated. At the same time, the panel is forced to drape over the mandrel, by means of a vaccuum under the panel. After cooling down, the plastic remains in this shape.

A test with a plastic bag demonstrates the principle.
